Colors

Matty has been practicing how to say a few colors. He can now say blue, red, yellow, & purple. The most exciting part is that he can identify blue items and red items. He brought a red toy to me this morning and said 'red'. If I ask him to bring me a blue car, he goes over to his Chucks trucks and picks out the blue one. He has also been practicing with crayons. We were out to dinner last night, and he had fun drawing on the paper table cloth for a little while. Then, he wanted to play with straws, sugar packets, water glasses...but at least he was well behaved! Here he is hamming it up...

Round 4 - Synagis

Today, I had to take Matty in for his 4th round of Synagis shots this season. Since the poor guy has to go every 4 weeks, he definitely knows the routine. As soon as the nurse closed the door, he started to cry, and I mean hysterically cry. He cried when I placed him on the scale to be weighed. I think my jaw hit the floor when I saw his weight...he's now 21 lbs and 10 oz! This was a 1 lb 4 oz weight gain in just 4 short weeks. Hard to believe that he gained more in 4 weeks than he weighed at birth. We think that this stellar weight gain is due to the fact that he is walking now, which burns less calories than crawling does, and also that he has been drinking more whole milk as opposed to formula. Then, Matty and I hung out in the room (which was about the size of a small closet with no window) for over an hour! No joke. I even opened the door and started pacing around the hallway. Finally, the doctor arrived and he started to cry again. She showed me the infamous growth chart and he is SO CLOSE to the weight curve. This curve is for kids that were born full term in May'08, when Matty wasn't due until Sep'08. Not fair! But at least he is very close. The worst part is always holding his arms down while the nurse gives the shots. We are so happy with his weight gain! 1 lb 1 oz seems like such a long time ago!

Nana's Birthday

We had a nice weekend, even though it started off a bit rough. Matty was up most of the night on Friday. He usually gets up 2-4 times per night, but will just need a back rub to get back to sleep. However, he was very mad on Friday and had to be rocked a couple of times. We think that all of the wake-ups are due to his molars, which are starting to pop through the skin. Saturday night, he only got up once! This was the best night of sleep we have had in 4 weeks, no joke.

We celebrated my Grandma's birthday this weekend, (or as Matty calls her, 'Nana'). We had some yummy football food at my parents' house, and Matty really liked the homemade steak soup. He was too full to try some of the birthday cake however. We love you Gram (Nana)!

Dirt Devil Junior

I have mentioned in previous posts that Matthew loves vacuums. He especially loves the little dirt devil that we bought him for Christmas. He pushes it all around and makes motor sounds. Last night when we were getting him ready for his bath, he ran down the hall without clothes, found his vacuum, and started pushing it around. It was such a funny sight!

The Forgotten Toy

I was straightening up Matty's closet this afternoon, and I found a box of Leggos that had been packed away. He was so excited to see a 'new' toy, and has been playing with the train ever since. Maybe I should pack away a few toys each week and then bring them back out a little bit later...here he is with the toy, with Stan of course nearby.

Popping & Alarms

Matthew loves to watch us vacuum the house, and he often tries to help out. He now thinks that his ball popper is his own vacuum, and he pushes it around making motoring sounds. Another funny thing that happened this week involved his clock radio. We bought the radio when he was still in the NICU so that we could play music in his room to comfort him. One night this week, I heard a strange alarm sound coming from his room. I went in to find the alarm on his clock going off. He must have set it the day before! Too bad it was set for 4:30am. Then, he must have set it again because it went off a couple of days later. Maybe he'll have to teach me how to set it someday!

Weekend Pics

We had a nice low-key weekend. Since it was still really cold outside, we mostly stayed inside. We did make it over to my sister's house on Sunday afternoon to watch the Green Bay/Arizona game. Matty had fun running all over the place and playing with the dogs. He wore his new Nike 'leisure suit' that Ash & Charles bought him for Christmas. How cute!

Steppin' Out

Matty has really taken off with his walking! I even caught him running down the hallway yesterday. He also has started pushing some of his toys around, such as the ball popper, walk along toy, and the mini dirt devil...yes, he is obsessed with vacuums. He always watches us intently while we vacuum, so now he pushed these toys around and makes vacuum sounds! How funny. His walking gets stronger each day and we are so proud of him!

Now it seems that the only time he is interested in crawling is when he gets down to play with his cars & trucks!

Snowed In (again)

Ever since Christmas Eve, the weather has been freezing with no breaks! Today, we received the 3rd snowfall since then also. I think that we have about 4 new inches and it is still falling. The weather has made it very difficult to take Stanley out on his walks since there is no grass showing whatsoever. Jeremy has shoveled the driveway numerous times, everyone's skin is dry...I could go on and on. The only upside is that Matty loves to watch the snow falling and he especially loves watching Jeremy shovel. Here he is this evening watching the shovel show. He gets so happy and says 'hi Dada' over and over as we watches.

Happy New Year 2010

Happy New Year! Jeremy has been on vacation this week, and we have had a nice time. Matty went in for his Synagis shots on Monday, and he weighed in at 20 lbs 7 oz! Yea! He gained 1/2 lb in just 4 short weeks. Must be all of the mashed potatoes...anyhow, he has had fun playing with all of his new toys and reading all of his new books. Plus, walking all over the place...anyhow, we welcome 2010 and wish everyone a great new year to come! Here are some pics from the week as well as a pic from exactly 1 year ago today!
