Lullaby

When Matty was in the NICU, we bought a little cd player so that he could listen to music while he slept and while we held him. One cd that was played the majority of the time had soft lullaby songs with rainforest sounds in the background. I played this cd every afternoon while I rocked him in the green rocking chair in his room. A few weeks ago, I found this cd and played it...as soon as the music started, all of the memories of the NICU came rushing back to me. I was amazed at Matty's reaction when he heard the music...he immediately dropped the cars that he was playing with and sat next to me...he stared at the cd player and said 'Mommy hold you' (which is how he says 'Mommy hold me'). He seemed mesmerized by the music. This music obviously had an impact on him during a stressful time in his life...he must somehow remember that he was comforted by his parents while listening to this music. He now calls the songs his 'NICU music'...

Muscle Men

We are still in the middle of a crazy heat wave, complete with heat advisory warnings every day. What better way to stay 'cool' than to wear hip muscle shirts! On top of the heat and being stuck inside, Matty came down with a 2-day virus on Sunday. He didn't show any symptoms, but felt hot. When I took his temp, it was 103, so instead of going to Touch a Truck (our original plan), I ran him down the street to the after hours ped clinic. His temp there was 105! Yikes. I about fell on the floor with worry. The doc assured me not to worry, that this was just his body's way of fighting off a bug. He was negative for strep and for ear infections, so we started him on child ibuprofen. We have also had house painters here all week, roofers pounding on the house next door...it has been a true circus. To top it all off, our blender broke, and then the kitchen refrigerator decided to call it quits too. We bought a new one last night, but it won't be delivered until next Tue. Thank goodness we have an extra fridge out in the garage. Other than that, we are very thankful for our A/C and for Nick Junior!

Pics from the Week

The boys are starting to do more things together...watch tv, play toys...the only thing that they won't do very often is pose together for a picture! The big news from the past week is that Zach started pulling up on furniture all by himself!

10 Months

Little Zach turned 10 months old this week...his first year is really flying by! He had a big week...started crawling like a pro and also cut his first tooth. He loves to crawl over to the AC vents, stick his head over the cold air, and laugh like crazy...his very own way of keeping cool during this intense heat wave! He also knows where all of the spring protectors behind the doors are...he will push a door out of the way to get to one...when he pushes a spring, it makes a loud noise which also makes him laugh...and then Matty will join in and they both will be laughing. It is so much fun to watch the interaction between the two brothers!

Out to Dinner

We went out to eat at the Macaroni Grill last weekend. Matty enjoyed his chicken tenders and fries, and Zach tried pizza for the first time...which he loved!

Dual Checkups

This morning, my Mom and I took the boys to the pediatrician for Matty's 3 year and Zach's 9 month checkups. Luckily, his doctor recently moved out of the old office at OPR into a brand new building right down the street...very convenient! Matty was in one of his wild moods there...running all around waiting room and not wanting to sit still in the exam room. When he went out into the hall to get his weight and height measurements, he simply said, 'I don't like this place', and then he told the nurse to 'make it quick'. Yikes. Then, he kept telling the nurses and the doctor goodbye before his exam even started! He had decided that he was done early I guess. Here are their stats:

Matty
weight: 28 lbs, 7 oz (13%). This was up from last year's weight of 24 lbs, 2 oz (11%). He has come a long way from his birth weight of 1 lb, 1 oz!

height: 38 inches (57%). This jumped way up from last year's height of 33 inches (11%). Again, he has come a long way from his birth length of just 11 inches!

Remember, Matty is still being compared to babies born full-term in May '08, so if he was being compared to babies born in Sep '08 (his true due date), he would be a lot higher in both categories!

Zach
weight: 21 lbs, 7.8 oz (53%).

height: 30 inches (84%). He was in the 70ish% for height at his 6 month checkup, so he is definitely turning into a tall guy!

He only had to receive one shot today, thank goodness. All in all, it was a great checkup for both boys, we are so blessed. Hard to believe that my boys are only 7 lbs apart at this point! Together, they almost total 50 lbs. I thought that the double baby jogger stroller was getting heavy...

USA

Zach wore one of Matty's past 4th of July suits last weekend...it was a little tight on him and it looked sort of like a wrestling suit, but was still cute! Matty's pic (bottom left) was from July 4, 2009.

Happy 4th of July

We celebrated the 4th of July one day early with a fun dinner at my parents' house. My Aunt Mary & Uncle Ronnie were in town and had fun playing with the boys! When we got home, it was tough getting everyone to bed due to the loud fireworks that were going off in our neighborhood...I heard them until about midnight, yikes! Matty slept in our room, Zach got up multiple times, and I know it will be the same tonight. Matty kept saying, 'turn fireworks off'. This morning, I took Matty to our neighborhood parade. The firetruck had to leave early and so he didn't get to sit behind the wheel this year. But we were able to go swimming instead, which he loves!
